I would like to begin by letting all of our exhibitors know how much you are appreciated! We thank you for all your patience and understanding during these difficult times. In the 27 years of building such strong and meaningful relationships with our exhibitors, I have always looked forward to coming together each year for the GJX gem show. As such, this is one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make. With the well-being and health of our exhibitors, buyers and staff being our top priority, GJX does not feel we can safely hold the GJX 2021 show.

This past August, I sent a letter to our exhibitors in response to numerous inquiries concerning the pandemic and the status of the GJX 2021 gem show. At that time, I was optimistic that COVID-19 would be under control by year end and the show would proceed as scheduled. This obviously is not the case today.Recent figures show that over 11 million people have been infected with COVID-19 in the U.S. and in the past week an additional 1 million have tested positive.

This increase has resulted in the health department here in Tucson maintaining their stringent restrictions and policies regulating events over 50 people. Numerous mandates are being enacted to protect all participants of the gem show. GJX supports the concerns of the health department but the mandates create serious challenges to operate the 2021 GJX show. The most restrictive issue limits occupancy in any structure to one person per 150 sq/ft. With our facility consisting of 120,000 sq/ft., this would only allow 800 people in the structure, including dealers, buyers, registrars, police and staff at one time. Due to this major restriction proposed by our health department, we have no alternative but to cancel the 2021 GJX show.

All funds paid for exhibitor booth(s) for the 2021 show will apply to the 2022 show. Any and all costs resulting from the cancellation of the show will be borne by GJX . It is extremely disappointing to GJX ownership and staff that the 2021 show has to be cancelled. Please stay well and safe. We look forward to seeing everyone in 2022.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Allan Norville
