The President's Message - November 2026

Dear ICA Member friends and colleagues,

It's been a big year for ICA, and as we head into the busiest stretch of the year, I wanted to write to you about the people who make this association what it is. That's you.

Most of us got into this business because we fell for colored stones. We stay for the community. ICA has about 600 members in 47 countries. Some of you mine, some cut, some trade, some run labs or teach. What you have in common is that you've put your name next to ICA's. That tells a buyer you'll be honest and straightforward with them about what you know of a stone, including its treatments and origin. It tells another member they can pick up the phone and do business with you.

I see what that's worth every time I'm at a show. Members who met at an ICA reception become long-term trading partners. Experienced dealers take the time to answer a newer member's questions. When a market turns or a new regulation lands, people pitch in and help each other work it out. None of that shows up on an invoice, but it's the real reason to belong.

Your membership also gives ICA a voice. When we talk to governments, labs or the wider jewelry industry, it matters that we speak for hundreds of businesses around the world. And much of ICA's work is done by members themselves: those who sit on committees, serve as Ambassadors in their countries, speak at our events or share what they know in our online community. To everyone who gives that time, thanks heaps.

This year we welcomed a new CEO and are moving full steam ahead on our mission and vision for ICA. You'll hear more from us in the coming months, including new member benefits and better ways to stay in touch. Membership renewals open in January, but you'll get our early discount if you renew by the 15th of November. We hope you'll stay with us for many years to come.

I'm proud to be part of ICA with all of you. I hope the coming weeks keep you busy, and I'll be in touch again in December.

Cheers,

Damien Cody
ICA Board President
