PosterGEMFIELDS DISCOVERS AN EXCEPTIONAL 6,225 CARAT ZAMBIAN EMERALD
Gemfields PLC announces the discovery of an exceptional 6,225carat rough emerald at its Kagem mine in Zambia.
The emerald was recovered during normal mining operations on 5 February 2010 and is being examined by Gemfields’ experts to establish a clearer understanding of its value and significance. They will continue to evaluate the gem before any final decision is taken in terms of its future.
The emerald has been named “Insofu” (or “elephant” in the vernacular of the Bemba people indigenous to this region) in consideration of its size and in honour of the World Land Trust’s ‘Elephant Corridor Project’, of which Gemfields is a participant. [more]

67th Annual Golden Globe Awards
The Golden Globe ceremony is the first red carpet event of the year. This year’s 67th annual Golden Globe Awards was an occasion to measure the temperature of Hollywood jewelry and fashion. The crème de la crème of the television and movie elite were dressed and bejeweled to the nines. This year’s ceremony, held at the ballroom of Beverly Hilton on Sunday, January 17, was undeniably influenced by the massive earthquake that occurred in Haiti earlier in the week. Stars were wearing red, yellow and blue ribbon pins in a sign of solidarity. A group of stars will donate their gowns for auction to benefit earthquake victims. …[more]

This year the numbers of visitors of the trade fair reached last yearís numbers on day three already and finally 3.600 visitors came to Idar-Oberstein.

A public funeral service will be held for ICA Director and Founding Member Campbell Bridges who was slain in Kenya last week. The service will begin at noon at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi on Friday, August 21st.
The Bridges family met today with ICA members in Kenya where they requested that Susie Kennedy, ICA Ambassador to Kenya, give a eulogy for Campbell who was a beloved member of ICA. Following the service ICA will host a wake for Campbell nearby. …[more]

Waves of shock and grief reverberated through the international gemological community on August 11, 2009 when word started coming out of Kenya that the legendary British-born geologist and ICA Director Campbell Bridges had been brutally murdered near one of his mines in the Taita Taveta District in Tsavo National Park. In only a few days, Campbell would have celebrated his 72nd birthday.
