... Other gemstone Did You Knows include the 9-carat cushion cut amethyst ring with diamonds in platinum worn by Claire Danes; and the 12-carat cushion cut pink morganite ring with diamonds in platinum worn by Sophie Okonedo, co-star “Hotel Rwanda”, both by Harry Winston. In fact, there was about $10 million in Winston gems and jewels adorning the Red Carpet for the Globes.

Color also remains a Hollywood favorite in diamonds as seen on Shohreh Aghdashloo, 2004 best supporting actress Oscar nominee for “House of Sand and Fog” and co-star “24”, wore a 54-carat yellow and white diamond cluster cuff set in 18-karat yellow gold and platinum, 37-carat yellow and white diamond cluster cuff set in 18-karat yellow gold and platinum, and 25-carat fancy intense yellow diamond cushion cut ring, by Harry Winston.

Colorful necklaces were expected to be more of the rage than they actually were Globe night, but the most notable napes were Kate Hudson in a swirling open lattice gold choker with droplets of peridot, aquamarine and tanzanite boasting Harlequin Romance charm, and TV’s Will and Grace star Debra Messing in a fancy color Tahitian cultured pearl strand, both by Fred Leighton.

Among the suits adding color to their looks were Jamie Foxx, best performance by an actor for the motion picture “Ray”, in a midnight-blue shirt capped with sapphire and diamond white gold cufflinks by Harry Winston, and HBO’s Entourage co-star Jeremy Piven sported platinum, diamond and iolite cufflinks by Erica Courtney.

To duplicate your own Red Carpet experience with Golden Globe appeal you don’t need to wear a Valentino or a Leighton…but if you get your hands on either or both don’t turn it down. Just think color, movement and glamour when dressing for your big event. Above all, follow your style. Wear colors and designs that bring out the best in you.

Globe Trotting for Gemstones
Golden Globe 2005

By Deborah Yonick

— The Golden Globe Awards — a precursor to the Academy Awards not only in nominations and winners but also in fashions and accessories, is a must-see for trend tracking style mavens. This year, elegant, feminine frocks spun the globe, with color paramount from mocha zircon to ruby red. More likely to be daring in fashions at the Globe — traditionally regarded as the less traditional awards show — celebrities tend to deviate from the black and white norm of the Oscar’s.

While the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) selected those it deems the best in film and television at its 62nd Globes, fashion critics everywhere staked out the Red Carpet to pick up A List style pointers. By and large, the looks marked a return to movie star magic. Fashion expert Leon Hall best describes the major themes as colorful, floating chiffon, cascading satin, tight bodices, and plunging neck/back lines — all with Grecian goddess appeal. Star Jones Reynolds during her Red Carpet fashion commentary for E used the term “glamazon” often to describe Hollywood glam gals.

All the rage gown colors ran the spectrum from jewel to pastel tones including rich chocolate, sapphire blues and vivid teals to bright pastel sorbets in raspberry, strawberry, peach, lemon, lavender-thyme, and green tea. Not only were the fashions classic and colorful, so were the accessories. Overwhelmingly, the ears had it, with large, statement earrings in gemmy drops, dangles, and chandeliers jewels of the moment. ...

... Style watchers couldn’t help but notice Eva Longoria, star of ABC’s hit TV series Desperate Housewives, in a waterfall of emeralds and diamonds framing her face in earrings by H. Stern. Also flaunting emerald earrings, 19-carat drops by Harry Winston, was Phantom of the Opera star Emmy Rossum. Sparkling like the night sky, Charlize Theron accessorized her electric midnight blue Christian Dior gown with aquamarine drops, totaling 36.6 carats, by Chopard. And, Scarlett Johansson topped her Marilyn Monroe strapless peach number with ruffled bodice with imperial topaz earrings by Fred Leighton.

“This event is a lot more playful than a lot of the other awards. It’s loose and lighthearted, and the dresses reflect that,” designer Monique Lhullier told the Associated Press. An example of this carefree attitude can be found in the gown Lhullier created for Diane Lane — jade chiffon with jade organic stone clusters at the neckline. He notes that silk chiffon, soft colors, and metallics are trendy on the Red Carpet.
